Maria Batalha

Born in Portugal and raised in Richmond, Maria Batalha came to Vancouver at an early age with her parents and wasted no time in starting her insurance career. At 25, she joined forces with “Arm West” and worked in their underwriting program placing business policies for a group of agents throughout the province of BC - she remained there for 12 years until the office closed.

In 1993, Mrs. Batalha joined an agency on Cambie street owned by Mr. Alfie Kamitakahara, Kami Insurance, where she would take care of the brokerage’s commercial portfolio.

After spending the next thirteen years at Kami, she decided that it was time to move close to home where she could spend more time with her family. Unbeknownst to her at the time, Maria was about to meet the agent that would change her career forever. Morley Shafron, a very established and well respected broker, took Maria under his wing for the following thirteen years. The pair worked together building a book of business to hundreds of policies and millions in premium.

In 2016, Mr. Shafron decided to retire, and with the support of many loyal clients, Maria was able to continue servicing them. Mrs Batalha went back to Kami for a short period before finally joining the Alteri team. With over thirty years’ experience in personal and commercial lines, our agency is both honored and excited to have Mrs. Batalha aboard.
